What Are Network Protocols?

Network protocols are standardized rules that determine how data is transmitted, received, and formatted during communication between devices. Without these protocols, devices wouldn’t be able to communicate efficiently. Here’s a breakdown of some essential network protocols:

1. IP (Internet Protocol): This is the foundation of the internet. It routes data from one device to another, ensuring it reaches the correct destination.

2. TCP (Transmission Control Protocol): Ensures that data is reliably delivered. It establishes a connection and ensures all packets of data arrive correctly.

3. UDP (User Datagram Protocol): A faster but less reliable protocol. It’s used when speed is more important than accuracy, such as for live streaming.

4. HTTP (Hypertext Transfer Protocol): Handles the loading of websites. It transmits web pages from servers to your browser.

5. FTP (File Transfer Protocol): Used to transfer files between computers over a network.
